Pharaoh's Closet
is now part of RVA Cares inc
Never did we realize when we started Pharaoh's
Closet 6 years ago, that we would ever reach the
500,000 mark of clothes given to those in
need.
But not only we have met that mark, we have surpased it (see
statistic page).
As we have moved to a business model, this immense program needs to remain part of us, but needs additional assistance to meet the ever growing needs isn our community. Therefore we are placing this program as part of the RVA CARES. By joining together in a partnership, we will be able to provide more effiecient and effective services. RVA Cares inc, will provide the non-profit structure needed to receive donations, grants and other funding for the joint and individual services that will be offered.
The mission of RVA Cares is:
A non-profit umbrella agency designed to connect small/medium community and faith-based programs in a partnership to ensure a more efficient and effective use of resources provided to families in crisis whose needs require a significant variety of recovery services...

As we begun our work with families, it didn't take long for our team to realize that there was more than one issue, more than one illness, more than one family member in crisis. It was then that we began working on developing our Recovery Plus Program. As a faith based program, we realized that we needed to start there as we begin the healing. Which brings us to washing feet.
In John 15:22 of the Bible, it discusses Christ willingness to humble Himself before His appostles by washing their feet. There was never any action that Christ provided that didn't have a purpose. And this was no exception. We are all in need of learning humility. Not just with those we don't know, but more importantly with those we DO KNOW...
Of course we are not suggesting that we should wash feet literally... the invention of shoes and socks has made that somewhat of a moot point. What we are talking about is the heart... and what we need to do to begin the process of recovery... Therefore the first step in anyones recovery is to be willing to serve others. If all we ever think about is ourselves we become far more vunerable to bad behavior, drugs, mental health crisis and so much more.... after all it is all about us.... Right?
It is only when we start the process of puting other people's needs first, automaticallly, without hesitation, that we learn the real value of who we truly are and what we have to offer to ourselves, to our families and to society...
It is the starting point of healing....
